About KFIBS

The Cologne Forum for International Relations and Security Policy (KFIBS) was initiated in 2005 by political science students at the University of Cologne and formally registered as a non-profit association in March 2006. Today, after two decades, KFIBS has grown into an established civil society think tank with a wide network of researchers, advisors, and partner organisations.

The association operates under a scientific advisory board (Wissenschaftlicher Beirat) and a board of trustees (Kuratorium), ensuring academic quality and strategic guidance. All publications are produced exclusively according to genuine scientific quality criteria.

Our four-pillar model

KFIBS structures its activities along four strategic areas, each offering concrete opportunities for cooperation:

Pillar 1
Early-career development
Mentoring and funding programmes to support young researchers in academia and in the private sector.
Pillar 2
Civic & political education
Public outreach on international politics, foreign and security policy, and democratic resilience — including school programmes.
Pillar 3
Expert & speaker pool
Placement of qualified speakers and experts with foundations, parties, economic actors, etc. (brokerage services provided by KFIBS on a commission basis).
Pillar 4
Evidence-based policy advice
Commissioned research, country-risk analysis, and strategic foresight for corporate decision-makers.
